Award Winner

The Little Apple Pilot Club won the 2018 Civic Philanthropist Project Award from the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation at its annual awards ceremony on March 26, 2018.  Little Apple Pilot Club raised funds and completed construction for three phases of a Therapeutic Garden at Big Lakes Developmental Center.

New garden features include ADA accessible raised planters, musical chimes, a labyrinth, and a bird garden.  The new garden elements provide opportunities for cognitive and behavioral therapy through horticulture, music, and movement..

The therapeutic garden contributes to the goals of Big Lakes by providing a relaxed setting for cognitive skill-building, sensory stimulation, and behavioral therapy.  It has a positive impact on client well-being.
